Botswana, Capital Markets in Africa — The Botswana Stock Exchange Equity Markets showed signs of recovery as the Domestic Composite Index (DCI) and the Local Asset Sector Index (LASI) registered marginal gains today while the FCI and Domestic Financial Sector Index (DFSI) remained flat. Market capitalisation dropped further with price gains made in two stocks, however there were no price decreases recorded in the days trading.
The Botswana Domestic Composite Index (DCI) gained by 4.00 points or 0.04 percent to close 10,584.47 points up from its previous close of 10,580.33 points recorded in the previous session.
Likewise, the Local Asset Sector Index (LASI) was also up after the days trading closing at 792.82 gaining 0.04 points from its previous close of 792.78 points, a change of 0.00 percent (LASI is made up of the domestic companies and all foreign companies awarded the local asset status by the Ministry of Finance and development planning).
The Foreign Composite Index (FCI) traded neutral to close 1,562.91 points after the days trading closing 0.00 percent or 0.00 points and no change from its previous close of 1562.91 points.
The Domestic financial Sector index (DFSI) which is composed of all domestic financial sector companies, also remained flat after the days trading to close on 1226.11 points as previously recorded.
The market capitalisation settled at BWP 418,846.27 million dropping BWP 19.73 million with the Domestic Equity BWP accounting for BWP 50,173.83 million and the Foreign Equity Main Board accounting for BWP 368,672.44 million.
From a market activity perspective, the total daily volume settled at 964,766 shares traded which were exchanged from the 11,461 million Securities issued bringing the total turnover of those shares traded on the domestic and foreign main boards to BWP 3,473,628.45 million.
Leading the market activity in terms of the traded volumes were Letshego with 814,364, Choppies recording volume figures of 58,950 followed by Sefalana with 37,642.
In terms of price gainers and price losers there were two price gainers and no price losers today leaving market breadth positive, BIHL was up 1 point to close at BWP 1478 per share and NAP was up 1 point to close at BWP 246 per share.
